Apprenticeship is the oldest and arguably most effective model of knowledge transmission: learning by doing, in real conditions, alongside someone who has mastered the practice and can provide immediate, calibrated feedback. The guru-śiṣya relationship of the yogic tradition, the master-journeyman-apprentice structure of the medieval guild, the residency model of medical training, and the atelier of the artist all share the same core structure. What apprenticeship provides that no classroom can replicate is the transmission of tacit knowledge — the knowing that lives in the body and in the practiced judgment of the master.
