Disciplinary specialization produces depth; interdisciplinary thinking produces the connections between depths that neither discipline can see alone. The most generative intellectual developments of the past century — cognitive science, evolutionary biology's intersection with psychology, behavioral economics, complex systems theory — have all occurred at boundaries between established fields. The Sutras themselves are interdisciplinary in this sense: they synthesize yoga, Sāṃkhya metaphysics, Vedic epistemology, and a close reading of direct psychological observation into a framework that none of its source traditions had independently achieved.
Each step builds on the last.
