Trust is the invisible infrastructure that belonging runs on — you cannot belong to a community you cannot trust, because belonging requires some degree of self-disclosure, and self-disclosure without trust is exposure. It is built slowly, through accumulated small evidences of reliability, and broken quickly. The communities that have it guard it carefully; the ones that lose it rarely recover what they had.
