Secondary traumatic stress

Secondary traumatic stress occurs when you absorb the weight of others' suffering—through caregiving, witnessing, or constant exposure to trauma—until your own nervous system becomes dysregulated. Healers and helpers must learn to receive support and set boundaries, or they cannot continue to give.
