Trauma and the nervous system

Trauma gets stored in the nervous system as a pattern of alarm, leaving you hypervigilant or numb, unable to fully inhabit the present moment. Healing happens when you gently guide that nervous system back to the understanding that you are now safe, often through movement, breath, and being witnessed by someone who doesn't flinch at your pain.
