Constraint Prompting to Force Realistic Plans

Unrealistic plans feel good in the moment but backfire when you can't execute them; building your constraints into the AI prompt from the start—"I have 90 minutes and high energy depletion"—forces honest planning that actually works. The plan lands in your capability zone rather than in fantasy.

Why It Matters

Constraint prompting is the technique of deliberately adding real-world limitations to your AI prompt so that the plan or output it generates is actually achievable rather than aspirational. Examples include specifying available hours, energy levels, dependencies, or tools you do not have access to before asking AI to build a schedule or action plan.

Without constraints, AI defaults to idealized solutions that look good on paper but fall apart in practice, and learning to front-load your prompts with honest limitations is one of the highest-leverage habits for getting daily plans you will actually follow.
