Asian American identity

Asian American identity encompasses vast ethnic, national, linguistic, and class differences often flattened into a monolith by the U.S. racial framework, while simultaneously being positioned as the "model minority"—a status that obscures real discrimination and pits Asian Americans against other communities of color. Understanding this identity requires rejecting the both the flattening and the flattery.
