Authenticity and identity

Authenticity is often framed as discovering your "true self," but it's more usefully understood as aligning your choices and presentation with your actual values and understanding—a practice rather than a fixed state. The risk is that authenticity becomes another pressure: the demand that you perform a consistent, legible self for others' comfort, when real integrity sometimes means contradiction or opacity.
