Performed identity

Identity as something we enact through behavior, presentation, and interaction rather than something we simply possess—the recognition that who we are is always partly a performance, whether we're aware of it or not. This doesn't mean identity is false, but rather that authenticity is never unmediated; we're always translating ourselves for particular audiences and contexts.
