Rights and duties

Rights are often understood as freedoms from interference, but duties—obligations we owe to others—are equally fundamental to justice; you cannot have genuine rights without people willing to honor the corresponding duties. Neglecting duties allows people to claim rights while refusing responsibility, which eventually corrodes the entire system.
