Social identity theory

Social identity theory shows that people derive self-worth and belonging partly from groups they belong to—race, nationality, profession, team—and that this tribal pull is powerful and mostly unconscious. Understanding this explains both solidarity and prejudice: we naturally elevate our group and its achievements while diminishing others, making bias not a personal moral failing but a structural feature of how humans make meaning.
