Laozi speaks of usefulness emerging from emptiness—a cup's value lies in the space it contains, a room's utility in the emptiness. Most people treat their social feeds as containers to maximize, following hundreds, accepting every notification. This abundance paradoxically creates emptiness of meaning. Intentional curation creates the opposite: by unfollowing aggressively and following sparingly, you create a feed of genuine signal rather than noise. This requires ruthlessness—unfollowing accounts that trigger comparison, fear, or disconnection; following only those who illuminate or inspire genuine connection. The emptiness you create becomes a gateway. When you're not drowning in content, individual posts carry weight. Relationships deepen because you're actually engaging with fewer people more meaningfully. Loneliness dissolves not through following more but through making your digital space genuinely reflect what nourishes you. This practice of sacred emptiness runs counter to platform incentives but aligns with human capacity for meaningful attention.
