The Gateway of All Wonders

Laozi wrote: 'The gateway of all wonders is the subtle.' Data center energy efficiency often becomes an end in itself—a metric to optimize, a benchmark to chase. Yet true wisdom lies in recognizing efficiency as a gateway to deeper understanding: what does energy consumption reveal about computational necessity, about actual versus assumed requirements, about the relationship between technology and ecological limits? Each efficiency improvement opens perception to new questions. Why do we compute what we compute? What is the real purpose of data we process?
