Rollups work because developers can deploy existing code with minimal changes. These solutions don't require users to understand new paradigms or sacrifice security intuitions. Contrast this with scaling solutions requiring users to trust new intermediaries or learn novel mechanics—these fight the grain. Laozi would recognize: the best solutions seem inevitable in hindsight, almost undesigned. They follow incentive curves naturally. Applied to blockchain scaling, this suggests: if a solution requires extensive user education or behavior change, it's probably forcing rather than flowing. The path of least resistance in scalability leads users through familiarity toward capacity, making distributed systems feel as simple as centralized ones.
