Shunshi: Timing of Ancestral Integration

Shunshi (順時) means following the season, the timing. Laozi warns against forcing transformation; the Tao moves in its own rhythm. Ancestral work is similar—there are seasons for remembering, grieving, celebrating, and releasing. Many attempt to "heal" family trauma through willpower or urgent processing, creating friction against natural timing. True wu wei with ancestral time means recognizing when a story wants to surface, when silence serves better, when action flows naturally. One season you may need to study your grandmother's choices; another season, you simply live them forward without analysis. Shunshi teaches us to attune to the inner clock that knows when ancestral integration is ripe, avoiding both avoidance and premature forcing.
