Pu, the uncarved block, symbolizes original simplicity before convention shapes and diminishes it. Yet technology also enables previously impossible authenticity: the shy person finds genuine community online; marginalized faith traditions gain voice and visibility. The Taoist sage recognizes that some carving is necessary—context, form, even technology—while preserving the essential uncarved nature beneath. Applied to faith technology, this concept asks: does this digital tool carve away authenticity or reveal it? Can a platform preserve pu while enabling connection? The challenge for technologists is designing with radical simplicity, removing unnecessary mediation, and honoring the raw humanity of spiritual seeking. This bridges Taoist philosophy with the universal spiritual intuition that what's real needs no enhancement.
