The Watercourse Way: Following Your Stream

Instead of chasing platforms and trends, identify your authentic current and flow with it, regardless of others' paths.

Why It Matters

Laozi's metaphor of water flowing to the lowest place, finding its course without effort, describes the Watercourse Way: moving with genuine inclination rather than against external pressure. Digital FOMO is powered by platform-driven currents—trending topics, algorithmic nudges, social comparison—that have nothing to do with your actual interests or energy. The Watercourse Way asks: what do you naturally flow toward when no one is watching? What conversations, creators, or communities draw you organically? Many people experience FOMO not because they want to engage with everything but because they've lost contact with their authentic current. By repeatedly returning to what genuinely interests you—not what should interest you—you realign with your personal Tao. This requires patience and self-honesty; it means accepting that your stream may not match others'. When you stop swimming against your nature to chase external validation, anxiety naturally decreases, and you discover that flow is available when you stop forcing.
