The Beloved's Continued Presence

Mirabai's mystical conviction that the beloved (Krishna) remained present despite absence offers a framework for relating to loss without forgetting.

Why It Matters

Mirabai never treated Krishna's absence as finality. He was present in everything—in longing itself, in the beauty that reminded her of him, in the possibility of union. This concept reframes triggering dates: the anniversary's intensity is evidence that the person or experience continues to live in you. Their absence is real; their presence is also real. On these dates, consciously acknowledge both: the sharp truth that they are not here in form, and the mystery that they are woven into your ongoing life. This prevents two extremes—either clinging to hope for their return or accepting their erasure. The examined heart holds paradox: grief proves that what was lost genuinely mattered and continues to matter.
