Bhavna: Emotional Truth-Telling

The practice of honest emotional expression and vulnerability as a spiritual path, rejecting the cultural silencing of grief anticipation.

Why It Matters

Bhavna refers to feeling, emotion, and the internal state made visible through action and expression. Mirabai refused the silence expected of her; she danced, sang, and proclaimed her devotion despite social condemnation. Anticipatory grief often arrives with a mandate to stay silent: we're not supposed to grieve someone still living, to speak of dying before it happens, to burden them with our pre-emptive sorrow. Bhavna invites resistance to this silence. It asks: What do you actually feel? Can you name it? Can you speak it—to the person, to a trusted witness, to yourself? This might mean difficult conversations, ugly crying, or honest letters. Bhavna recognizes that the heart knows what's true before the mind permits it, and that emotional honesty is both a spiritual practice and a form of respect for the relationship's reality.
