The Body as Sacred Ground

Honoring physical intimacy and embodied presence as a path to healing attachment trauma.

Mira
Why It Matters

Mirabai's poetry celebrates sensual love—the body of Krishna, physical closeness, embodied longing—while remaining spiritually grounded. This integration of body and spirit offers healing for attachment patterns rooted in dissociation or shame. Anxious attachment sometimes manifests as either frantic sexual seeking (using sex to secure connection) or freezing during intimacy (the body carrying old trauma). Avoidant attachment may use sexual distance to maintain control. Mirabai teaches that the body is not separate from the sacred; physical presence, touch, and pleasure are forms of devotion. Healing practice: approach physical intimacy with full presence and reverence. During sex or non-sexual touch, notice where your mind leaves your body—anxiety narratives about whether your partner truly desires you, performance concerns, dissociation. Practice returning to sensation: the warmth of skin, the rhythm of breath, the aliveness of being met. This grounded embodied presence dissolves the anxious mind-loops and allows genuine vulnerable connection. The body becomes the teacher of trust and safety.
