Mirabai's practice of unflinching inner inquiry that reveals self-deceptions, justifications, and the places where we abandon our truth.
Mirabai's bhakti was built on radical honesty with herself and her beloved. She did not hide, spiritualize pain, or pretend abandonment was enlightenment. The examined heart is the cornerstone of her path. In modern relationships, we tell ourselves stories that protect comfort over truth: 'If I leave, I am unloving.' 'If I set this boundary, I am selfish.' 'If I name this harm, I destroy connection.' The examined heart dismantles these stories. It asks: Where am I lying to myself? Where am I betraying my own knowing? Where have I made someone else's comfort my responsibility? Mirabai examined why she loved, what she was avoiding, where her devotion served her truth and where it might serve escape. This practice is not comfortable; it reveals the ways we participate in our own diminishment. Healthy boundaries require this ruthless honesty. The examined heart does not ask, 'How can I stay?' but 'Should I stay? Am I being true? What am I afraid to name?' This foundation makes all other boundary practices possible.
