The Examined Heart as Mirror

Deep self-inquiry into your own motives, wounds, and patterns before speaking, so your words reflect truth not projection.

Why It Matters

Mirabai's bhakti path required relentless self-examination: Why do I love? What do I seek? What am I avoiding? This internal scrutiny is preparation for honest communication. Before speaking to someone, particularly in conflict or vulnerability, the examined heart asks: Am I speaking from my authentic experience or from fear? Am I blaming them for what is actually my unhealed wound? Am I seeking connection or control? This practice prevents communication poisoned by unconscious projection. When you examine your heart honestly, you discover what you truly need to say versus what you're saying defensively. You see your own patterns—do you always accommodate? Always demand? Always withdraw? This self-knowledge becomes the foundation for different communication. You can then speak from awareness rather than automatic reaction. The mirror metaphor is precise: you cannot see yourself clearly without reflection. Similarly, you cannot communicate with integrity without turning inward first to know what's actually happening in your own heart, separate from the other person's impact.
