Examined Heart Practice

A contemplative method for investigating the layers of grief with honesty and without judgment, revealing what wants to be expressed.

Why It Matters

Mirabai's freedom came from radical honesty about her inner experience—her desire, her defiance, her heartbreak. The examined heart is a practice of turning inward with the same intensity she turned toward the divine. Rather than bypassing grief or performing recovery, this approach asks: What am I actually feeling? What story am I telling about this loss? What does my heart need to say that I've been silencing? Through journaling, meditation, or artistic exploration, the examined heart creates space for suppressed truths to surface. This practice honors the Socratic maxim—the unexamined life is not worth living—applied to grief. By investigating your own depths with compassion, you uncover the specific, irreplaceable material that makes your creative response authentic and healing.
