The Examined Heart Practice

A contemplative method for distinguishing between authentic love and unconscious patterns, rooted in Mirabai's constant self-interrogation of her own motivations.

Why It Matters

Mirabai spent her life questioning the nature of her love for Krishna—Was it real? Was it selfish? Was it madness or wisdom? This examined heart practice becomes a framework for modern couples to distinguish true connection from projection, fear, or conditioning. Rather than assuming feelings are self-evident, the examined heart asks: Why do I love this person? What am I seeking? Am I avoiding something? Where does devotion end and dependency begin? This practice applies across all Greek love types—examining whether philia is genuine friendship or mutual use, whether eros contains authentic desire or performance, whether storge deepens or calcifies. Mirabai's model suggests that love scrutinized is love strengthened, not weakened by the examination.
