Freedom as Primary Commitment

Making liberation from bondage—whether cultural, relational, or psychological—your deepest loyalty, above obligation and others' approval.

Mira
Why It Matters

Mirabai chose freedom even when it cost her family, position, and social standing. She demonstrated that honoring your own liberation might require disappointing others and facing their rage. For codependents, this is revolutionary: we've been trained that commitment to others must outweigh commitment to our own becoming. Mirabai inverts this hierarchy. Freedom becomes the sacred commitment—not selfish freedom that harms others, but honest freedom that refuses to shrink yourself to comfort them. This doesn't mean abandoning responsibility; it means refusing the false choice between self-abandonment and wickedness. You can be kind and bounded. You can love and leave. You can honor others and honor yourself. Mirabai's life insists that your primary loyalty must be to your own truth and liberation, and paradoxically, this is what allows genuine love to flourish.
