Freedom Through Severance

Mirabai's freedom came through severing ties to social status, family obligation, and conventional life—not from bitterness but from clarity about what truly mattered. For those holding anticipatory grief, a similar severance may be necessary: releasing the belief that civilization as currently structured can or should be saved. This does not mean giving up or cynicism; rather, it means honest assessment. Once we stop trying to maintain the illusion of permanence or progress, we can grieve what is genuinely lost and build what is genuinely possible. Severance from false hope paradoxically enables authentic hope. We can redirect energy from defending the indefensible toward creating regenerative cultures, building community resilience, and deepening our humanity. Freedom through severance is the examined heart's recognition that letting go is sometimes the most radical love we can offer—to ourselves, to each other, and to the living world we inhabit.
