Grief Witnessed and Honored

Mirabai's devotional community received her whole self; supporting grieving young people requires true witnessing of their pain without minimization or rush to comfort.

Why It Matters

Mirabai's followers witnessed her complete devotion—her longing, her ecstasy, her sorrow. They didn't tell her to calm down or move on. In supporting grieving children, the practice of true witnessing means being present to their pain without immediately trying to fix it. Rather than offering reassurance ("they're in a better place") or distraction, adults can simply acknowledge: "This is real. This matters. Your love for them is visible in your grief." This witnessing is different from shared feeling; it's a stance of presence and respect. When young people feel genuinely seen in their grief—not judged, not rushed, not minimized—they develop trust in their own emotional truth and in relationships themselves. Witnessing grief becomes a spiritual practice that honors both the deceased and the grieving child's journey.
