The ongoing examination and cleansing of the heart to distinguish between ego-driven needs and authentic love, creating boundaries rooted in clarity.
Hridaya suddhi, purification of the heart, is the practice of examining our inner motivations with ruthless honesty. Mirabai devoted herself to this—questioning whether her love for Krishna was truly selfless or contaminated by desire for status, acceptance, or emotional security. In boundaries work, hridaya suddhi means regularly asking: Am I protecting myself from fear, or from clarity? Am I setting this boundary to punish or to preserve? Do I need space because I'm injured, or because I'm being called elsewhere? This purification is not about achieving perfection but about honest self-examination. When we regularly cleanse the heart of unconscious patterns, blame, and projection, our boundaries come from wisdom rather than reactivity. We can then communicate limits with compassion, because we've done the internal work to understand our own wholeness.
