Prema as Civilizational Anchor

Mirabai's devotional love—prema—was not sentimental but fierce and grounded in radical presence. For anticipatory grief, prema offers a paradox: we can love what may be lost, and that love itself becomes an act of resistance and coherence. In civilization's potential unraveling, prema asks us to examine which attachments are authentic and which are illusions of permanence. The examined heart that loves fiercely despite impermanence becomes the soil from which resilience grows. This is not denial of collapse but a defiant insistence that love remains meaningful precisely because nothing lasts. Prema teaches that civilizational collapse need not mean the death of connection; it may require us to love more deeply, more honestly, in smaller circles and larger truths.
