Prema as Collective Witnessing

The practice of transforming personal grief into shared love through witness and remembrance, honoring those lost as part of our spiritual kinship.

Why It Matters

Mirabai's devotion was always relational—her love for Krishna was inseparable from her willingness to be seen, to grieve publicly, to sing her longing aloud. Prema, or divine love, becomes a vessel for collective grief when we allow ourselves to witness and be witnessed in sorrow. When public figures or communities face tragedy, prema invites us to move beyond passive sympathy into active remembrance: to name the lost, to sing their stories, to let their absence reshape our hearts. This is not sentiment but sacred attention—recognizing that grief shared in love creates bonds of meaning. The examined heart asks: whom do we truly witness, and how does our witnessing honor their life?
