Singing Your Truth to Power

Expressing your authentic feelings, needs, and boundaries creatively and courageously within family structures, following Mirabai's example of public truth-telling.

Mira
Why It Matters

Mirabai sang her devotion publicly, scandalously, refusing to perform the role of proper royal wife. Her songs were acts of defiance and freedom. In arranged marriages, many partners silence themselves, maintaining surface compliance while inner truth remains locked away. This concept encourages a Mirabai-like courage: expressing your authentic experience, not with aggression but with clarity and even beauty. This might mean telling your spouse: "I feel lonely in this marriage, and I want to change that." It might mean telling your family: "I respect your values and also need autonomy in these areas." It might mean creating art, journaling, or speaking with trusted mentors about your real experience. Singing your truth doesn't mean destroying the marriage or family; it means refusing to disappear into the role. Mirabai remained in her family home while singing of her true love; she neither left nor conformed entirely. Her courage created space for transformation in those around her.
