Transcendence of Duality in Love

Mirabai's dissolution of boundaries between lover and beloved models how to move beyond anxious-avoidant oscillation toward unified presence.

Mira
Why It Matters

In her mature practice, Mirabai stopped distinguishing between herself and Krishna, between lover and beloved. This non-dual realization transcends the attachment framework entirely. This concept suggests that secure attachment's endpoint is dissolution of the anxious question: "Are they thinking of me?" and the avoidant defense: "I don't need them." Instead, both self and other become transparent. Applied to human love, this is not codependency but radical interdependence. You can see your partner clearly—flawed, finite, real—without needing them to complete you. Simultaneously, you recognize that separation is illusory; you are genuinely woven into each other's existence. This doesn't mean losing individuality; it means recognizing that individuality itself is a useful fiction. Mirabai's love matured from seeking Krishna into becoming one with Krishna. Human partnerships can evolve similarly: from seeking the perfect partner into recognizing the perfection in ordinary, mutual presence.
