Transgression as Truth-Telling

Mirabai transgressed constantly: as a woman, as a widow, as a devotee outside orthodox structure, as a voice that defied authority. Her transgressions were not rebellion for its own sake but expressions of truth that could not fit within allowed frameworks. Anticipatory grief requires similar transgression: speaking what we know but are told not to say. That civilization is organized around extraction and death. That comfort and complicity are intertwined. That the future we've been promised will not arrive. That grief is appropriate and necessary. These truths transgress against dominant narratives of progress, hope, and control. Like Mirabai, we must transgress—through art, speech, presence—naming what is true even when it violates social convention. This transgression is not violent but necessary; it creates space for authentic collective response. Mirabai's defiance teaches that truth-telling itself becomes a form of devotion.
