Intrinsic value of nature

A river has intrinsic value when you recognize it matters because it exists, not because it matters to you—a much harder philosophical position to hold but the one that actually stops you from destroying everything. Shifting from using nature to respecting it requires you to believe something can be worth something without being worth something to you.
