The Natural Absurdity Principle

Recognizing that nature operates through mechanisms often stranger than fiction, inviting acceptance of life's inherent strangeness as normal rather than anomalous.

Why It Matters

Reality contains absurdities that exceed the Hodja's imagination. Platypi lay eggs yet nurse young with milk from skin pores; parasitic wasps lay eggs inside living hosts; some bacteria survive radiation that should vaporize them. Science reveals a universe stranger than any folklore. The Natural Absurdity Principle invites practitioners to expand their sense of 'normal' to include nature's actual strangeness. This dismantles the implicit naturalism that treats mechanical simplicity as the default and complexity as surprising. But nature prefers baroque solutions: redundancy, inefficiency, seemingly wasteful elaboration. Spiritually, this reframes how we meet life's absurdities—grief, desire, contradiction, mortality. Rather than viewing these as problems to solve or flaws in design, we recognize them as continuous with natural process. The Hodja's wisdom here is permission: permission to stop expecting life to be rational, to accept that meaning-making within absurdity is the actual human task. This principle integrates both scientific humility (reality exceeds our models) and spiritual acceptance (embracing what cannot be changed).
