Wisdom in Small Rebellions

The cat that ignores commands, the dog that bolts from the yard, the rabbit that refuses to be picked up—these acts of resistance are not failures but expressions of autonomy that contain wisdom. Hodja frequently depicts himself frustrated by his donkey's stubborn refusal to comply; yet the donkey's independence becomes the agent of the Hodja's education.
