Ishvara pranidhana—surrender to and alignment with universal order—is Patanjali's ethical and metaphysical anchor. It means subordinating individual will and profit to principles that serve all beings. Applied to AI and knowledge platforms, this is radical: it asks whether our systems serve human flourishing or merely extract attention and data. Are we building knowledge infrastructure aligned with wisdom traditions, ecological wellbeing, and collective flourishing, or optimizing purely for engagement and capital? Ishvara pranidhana challenges the default assumption that bigger, faster, more profitable is better. The future of knowledge requires intentional alignment: What principles guide our systems? Who benefits? What harms? Are we contributing to genuine understanding or to distraction and exploitation? This principle calls for knowledge systems designed with reverence—for truth, for the complexity of reality, for human dignity, and for the systems of life that sustain us. AI should serve alignment with what is true and good.
