Pratyaya is the content or object that the mind focuses on; examining what beliefs you hold reveals what your mind is attached to.
Pratyaya refers to the specific content or object of consciousness—what your mind is thinking about, focusing on, or believing. In the context of belief transformation, pratyaya teaches that your beliefs are not random; they reflect where your consciousness has placed its attention and energy. If you believe 'people cannot be trusted,' your mind's pratyaya is focused on stories of betrayal, danger, and unreliability. This selective focus reinforces the belief. Patanjali teaches that transformation begins by becoming aware of which pratyaya your mind habitually entertains. What themes dominate your thinking? Which thoughts do you unconsciously return to? Which beliefs shape your perception of reality? By identifying the pratyaya—the specific content and focus of your habitual thoughts—you gain the power to redirect your attention. You can consciously choose which pratyaya to cultivate. Instead of entertaining pratyaya of unworthiness, you can direct your mind toward pratyaya of capability and growth. This is not positive thinking; it is conscious redirection of consciousness itself. Over time, the pratyaya you habitually focus on become your dominant beliefs, and these beliefs shape your experience of reality and your possibilities.
