Samadhi as Integration and Wholeness

The ultimate yoga state of samadhi (integrated absorption) represents full psychological integration where traumatic fragmentation is resolved into unified consciousness.

Why It Matters

Samadhi, the eighth limb of yoga, represents a state of complete absorption and integration where the observer, observation, and observed merge into unified consciousness. For trauma survivors, dissociation and fragmentation characterize their psychological state—consciousness is fractured into protective parts, timelines are split, identity is scattered. Samadhi work, while advanced, offers a vision of what integrated wholeness feels like. Preliminary samadhi experiences—moments of flow, deep peace, or complete presence—provide the nervous system with evidence that unity and safety are possible. The progression toward samadhi unfolds naturally through consistent practice of earlier yoga limbs. As pratyahara, dharana (concentration), and dhyana (meditation) deepen, samadhi spontaneously emerges. For PTSD recovery, understanding samadhi as the destination motivates practice and reframes healing not as problem-solving but as progressive integration toward one's true unified nature, naturally healed and whole.
