Samadhi as the Goal of Secure Attachment

Envisioning deep relational presence and unified consciousness with others as the ultimate fruit of attachment healing and growth.

Why It Matters

Patanjali's ultimate goal of yoga is samadhi—a state of unified, undivided consciousness where subject-object duality dissolves. While often understood in meditation contexts, samadhi illuminates attachment's highest potential: the capacity for genuine meeting with another person in complete presence, without the interference of fear, defense, or psychological noise. This is secure attachment's deepest expression—not just behavioral security but the capacity to be fully present with another consciousness. In samadhi-like relational moments, you are not anxiously monitoring your partner's response, not defending against intimacy, not lost in your wound narratives. You are simply present. This doesn't mean relationships become effortless—it means the underlying consciousness is clear and available. Secure attachment, from this perspective, is movement toward samadhi: progressive reduction of the psychological obstacles that prevent genuine meeting and presence with others. It represents the healing journey's highest destination.
