Satya, truthfulness, in parts work means expressing authentic truth from the Self rather than having your words hijacked by protective parts operating their own agendas.
Satya, truthfulness, is the second yama and means speaking and living in alignment with truth. In the context of Parts work, satya reveals a subtle but profound challenge: most people believe they are speaking truthfully when, in fact, a protective part is controlling their speech. An angry part speaks harsh truths designed to wound; a people-pleasing part speaks convenient truths that hide real needs; a shame-based part remains silent under the guise of humility. Genuine satya requires the Self to be the primary voice—speaking from awareness, compassion, and accurate perception rather than from protective reactivity. This is not about censoring parts but about coordinating them so that Self-led communication includes all relevant truths without being distorted by any single part's protective agenda. In IFS language, parts often need to be unburdened from the role of determining what gets said; they can contribute their perspective once the Self is clearly in the driver's seat. When satya is practiced from Self-leadership rather than parts-reactivity, your words become clearer, more honest, and paradoxically more effective at genuine connection and boundary-setting.
