Authoritarian parenting examined

Authoritarian parenting—high control, low warmth, strict rules with little explanation—often comes from a parent's genuine belief that obedience keeps children safe and teaches discipline. What the research actually shows is more complicated: it can produce compliant children or rebellious ones, and it rarely builds the internal compass kids need when you're not watching.
