The Belonging Test

A diagnostic question revealing whether favoritism has fractured genuine community belonging into insider/outsider status.

Why It Matters

In Rabia's vision, all souls belong equally in the presence of the Divine. Favoritism creates a false reality: in-group and out-group, insiders and perpetual outsiders, the truly belonging and the tolerated. The Belonging Test asks a single question: If this person never achieved, never contributed, never succeeded, would they still belong here? In families: would a child who never achieved the family's values still be welcomed? In organizations: would a member who lost productivity or status still be fully included? In communities: would someone with nothing to offer still be valued? If the answer is no—if belonging is conditional on performance, status, or alignment—favoritism has replaced genuine belonging. Rabia's pure devotion was not earned; it was recognition of inherent worth. Communities that practice her wisdom make belonging unconditional while allowing roles, responsibilities, and relationships to vary. The test distinguishes between fairness in distribution (which can be complex) and the fundamental question of who truly belongs (which, in her tradition, is answered: everyone).
