The Cost of Divided Heart

Rabia al-Adawiyya taught that love of God demands an undivided heart—a principle that directly illuminates favoritism's spiritual cost. When we favor certain people, we fragment our capacity for pure devotion and create false hierarchies that contradict love's universal nature. In community, this divided attention undermines belonging: some members feel chosen while others experience rejection, poisoning the collective trust. It prevents us from seeing the divine spark in every person equally.
