Love as the Foundation of Community

Rabia al-Adawiyya taught that love of the Divine transcends fear and hope, creating a pure devotion that transforms how we relate to others. In community building, this means cultivating relationships based on genuine care rather than utility or agreement. When members are bound by love—not contract or convenience—communities become resilient through hardship. This Sufi principle invites us to ask: Are we building community because we truly care for these people, or because we need something from them? Intentional communities rooted in love create spaces where vulnerability becomes strength, where people show up not from obligation but from the heart's natural inclination toward connection.
