Love as Foundation for Community

Rabia al-Adawiyya taught that love of the Divine flows outward to embrace all creation. In community building, this means establishing relationships rooted in genuine care rather than transactional benefit or social obligation. When love becomes the foundation, community members show up authentically, forgive failures, and remain committed through difficulty. This transforms the community from a mere collection of individuals pursuing separate goals into an integrated whole where people genuinely invest in each other's flourishing. For intentional communities, this requires leaders and members to regularly examine their motivations, ensuring ego and self-interest don't corrupt the shared mission.
