Love as Foundation for Community

Rabia al-Adawiyya taught that pure love—love of the divine expressed through love of creation—forms the bedrock of genuine community. Unlike communities built on shared interests or mutual benefit, love-based communities arise from a commitment to the wellbeing of others without expectation of return. When building community intentionally, this principle suggests that the deepest bonds form when members relate to one another from a place of radical acceptance and care.
