Love as Organizing Principle

Rabia al-Adawiyya taught that pure love transcends fear and reward-seeking, focusing instead on devotion for its own sake. In community organizing, this translates to building movements rooted in genuine care for collective wellbeing rather than political gain or sectarian division. When organizers approach communities with authentic love and belonging as their primary motivation, they create deeper trust, more resilient coalitions, and sustained commitment beyond campaign cycles. This concept challenges transactional organizing models and invites leaders to examine whether their work stems from true love for the people they serve or from external incentives that may compromise integrity and community autonomy.
