Love as Organizing Principle

Rabia al-Adawiyya taught love of the Divine for its own sake, not from fear of punishment or desire for reward. In community organizing, this translates to mobilizing people through genuine care for their neighbors rather than transactional politics or external incentives. When organizers embody love for community members—seeing their dignity and potential—it creates authentic relationships that withstand setbacks. This approach contrasts with organizing driven by anger, resentment, or abstract ideology. Love-based organizing asks: What do we build together because we genuinely care for one another's flourishing? This principle strengthens retention, deepens commitment, and creates movements rooted in positive vision rather than opposition alone. Communities organized through love develop resilience because members are bound by genuine connection, making collective action sustainable across generations.
