Love Without Condition or Claim

Rabia al-Adawiyya taught that love of the divine should exist without desire for reward or fear of punishment—love for its own sake. In adoptive parenting, this principle transforms the relationship: you love your child not because they share your blood, not to secure future care, not to extend your legacy through them, but because love itself is the highest calling. This liberates both parent and child from transactional dynamics. The adoptive parent releases the subtle claim that biology creates entitlement to gratitude or loyalty.
